Celebrating the Launch of the PMBOK® Guide – Eighth Edition

Business Acumen

The PMI Denmark Chapter together with Mannaz A/S is delighted to invite all members and the wider project management community to a special event on 29 January to celebrate the global launch of the PMBOK® Guide – Eighth Edition — a landmark update to the most widely recognized global standard for project management.

This is more than a book release — it’s a strategic milestone for the profession, shaping how projects are delivered and how value is realized in an increasingly dynamic and digital world.

About the PMBOK® Guide – Eighth Edition:

The PMBOK® Guide – Eighth Edition represents the latest evolution of PMI’s flagship standard, developed through broad global collaboration and practitioner input to reflect how projects are managed today.

This edition continues PMI’s mission of advancing the project management profession by providing a common language, trusted practices, and a framework that bridges theory with real-world practice

Why This Edition Is Important

This new edition marks a significant evolution in project management standards for multiple reasons:

Balanced Approach: Principles + Practical Guidance

The Eighth Edition blends principle-based thinking with practical application by:

  • Refining core guiding principles into six actionable principles that embody modern leadership and value delivery in project environments.
  • Reintroducing practical structure through Focus Areas (akin to process groups) and 40 integrated processes designed for real-world use across predictive, agile, and hybrid projects.

Performance Domains for Contemporary Practice

The guide now emphasizes seven performance domains — such as Governance, Scope, Schedule, Finance, Stakeholders, Resources, and Risk — that reflect the core components driving project success today.

Stronger Relevance to Modern Work

It reflects the realities of modern delivery contexts by embedding:

  • Agile and hybrid methodologies
  • Sustainability and value delivery mindsets
  • Integration of data-driven decision making (including AI and analytics) into the framework of project practices.

By doing so, the Eighth Edition positions project managers to better navigate an environment that values adaptability, innovation, and measurable outcomes.

A Global Professional Standard — With Local Impact

The PMBOK® Guide has long been the foundation for shared language, best practices, and professional excellence worldwide. For decades it has helped:

  • Align organizations on project success criteria,
  • Provide a reliable standard for education and certification,
  • Strengthen the profession’s credibility across sectors and cultures.

The Eighth Edition continues this legacy, while also integrating feedback from tens of thousands of practitioners globally, ensuring it is both relevant and practical for contemporary project work.

Special Guest: PMI Global Leader

We are honored to host a key representative from PMI Global, Jess Fewell https://jessefewell.com/ who served as Chairperson of the Eighth Edition development committee.

In this exclusive session, Jess will share:

  • Inside insights on the vision, process, and rationale behind the new edition
  • What’s new and what’s changed — directly from the source
  • Guidance on how practitioners can apply the updated framework in their work
  • Q&A with attendees for interactive learning

This is a rare opportunity to learn directly from someone who shaped the new edition and helped guide its direction.

Jesse Fewell

Jesse Fewell became disillusioned with his career at 32. His software project just got canceled after three years of hard work, before anyone could ever use it. The culprit? Management had run it like a death march toward an inevitable, foreseeable disaster. In that moment, Jesse realized hard work and technical skill could never overcome poor leadership. So he went on a learning journey to find the secret of better leadership. By designing certifications, creating professional communities, and interviewing executives worldwide, Jesse discovered hope: YES, any workplace can be rewarding AND deliver bottom-line results, but only if managers are given the right support. That’s why he’s made it his life’s work to help leaders drive professional miracles like these… For industrial energy scale-up CTO, designed & deployed a new “productized”
