Tuesday, 2nd October 2019
Q3_2019 Introduction
Dear PMI members and friends,
In the Q3 2019 volume of the PMI DK newsletter, we have a bit of a mix of different topics to present. You can read about events with topics such as risk management and Devops, and you can also read about the 2019 PMI Pulse of the Profession publication as well as how PMI Denmark again this year participated in the DHL run.
Here we also want to use the chance to put attention to the fact that we soon will start event activities in Jutland. Very soon two PMI events will be published; One in the end of October in Randers syd, and one in the beginning of December in the center of Aarhus. PMI have for a long time had thoughts about starting more activities in Jutland, so it is with great pleasure that we soon will be able to publish these events. PMI expect to continue with events and activities in Jutland in the future, so if you are interested in taking responsibility and helping out with events in the Aarhus area then please reach out to us via mail.
Enjoy the reading.
Remember to book your agenda for the following events
14 October - Strategy Execution – The Final Frontier in Organizational Transformation
28 November – Science meets practice – Mega Projects
10 December – Nationalbanken and Portfolio Mangement
Mid January – oi720 - DevOps journey continues

Q3_2019 Event review: Benefit Realization in Agile Transformations
On June 25th Implement Consulting Group hosted an event for PMI on the subject of benefit realisations in agile transformation. It seems a majority of technology and traditional engineering companies in Denmark are in the process of some kind of agile transformation, so the subject was highly relevant.
The speakers Morten Mark Christensen and Rasmus Rytter were clearly experienced change managers in the field, but clearly also seasoned facilitators, as the audience were duly engaged throughout the session,
Hosted generously at the Implement premises in Hellerup, 22 PMI members were entertained, engaged and motivated by the speakers and the relevant topic. There was a good dialogue and well facilitated participants involvement and interaction.

Q3_2019 Sponsor´s Article:The leadership vacuum in project-based organizations
What is a leadership vacuum? Who should close it – and how?
Written by Lars Østerby, Mannaz
Working in projects is an effective and popular way of organizing work
So many organizations have realized the benefits of working in projects and having a project-based organization. Regardless whether you are within the software development, engineering, construction, manufacturing, in private or public sector, many employees spend most of their time working in projects, either as project managers or project members. The project methodology, whether it is an agile or a more traditional, provides a large amount of benefits to organizations.
The Leadership Vacuum
With more project members spending an increased amount of their time in projects, the organizations should be aware of a critical pitfall that gets created - a pitfall that we, as consultants, often experience when we train or help organizations within project management. I have called this pitfall - the leadership vacuum. It is an issue that is important to be aware of, and to be addressed, as it can be fatal to both project members and organizations.

Q3_2019 Continuous Improvement Lifecycle and Failing Fast
Written by Grant Sonne-Clifford
When an organisation embarks on a journey of improved performance the Continual Improvement Life-Cycle (CIL) can be used to illustrate the steps and help visualize the activities required to integrate a transformation or behavioural change.
1st iteration
The 1st iteration is the starting point of improvement, this could be based on a new corporate strategy or vision and should be broken down into SMART objectives,
Specific – Measurable – Achievable – Relevant – Time based
Many smaller objectives supporting the company strategy or vision, this manifests into initiatives. It could also be called initiative management.

Q3_2019 Event review: the DHL run

Written by Grant Sonne-Clifford
It was a phenomenal evening in Copenhagen, the sun shining, clear blue skies, parachutists from Denmark’s Forsvaret made a grand entrance from the sky.
5 Runners from PMI Danish Charter decided not to fly in from the sky, however met in the Fælledparken near the National stadium to participate in the annual DHL stafetten event. The event encourages companies to enter teams as a drive for health and collaboration.
The event had over 3000 teams making it over 15000 runners, with teams of 5 running as a relay. The course weaves its way around Fælledparken for 5 KM, there are hundreds of tents and generates a great atmosphere.
